The Barcoo Local Disaster Management Group takes seriously its responsibilities to its local community to prepare and support Council, local organisations and the community itself for possible disaster events. Council is committed to ensuring it is prepared for disasters in this area and will work with local agencies and organisations to ensure the best possible coordination of local effort in preparing, mitigating, responding to and recovering from disasters. Council has supported the development of this Local Disaster Management Plan to build on the considerable work previously undertaken in preparations for disaster management.

Council will also develop separate plans to ensure sound Business Continuity Arrangements within the Barcoo Shire Council as well as a Community Engagement and Education Strategy to support the preparedness of members of the public. This Plan has also been prepared to meet the legislative requirements of the State Government as stated in the Disaster Management Act 2003.

The Barcoo Shire Council Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has developed this plan to enable the most effective coordination of local disaster management effort to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of and visitors to the Barcoo Shire Council.
